The four handwork figures are separate named-house and trade-association claims about bespoke one-offs. They are not additive, not averaged, and not a benchmark for factory production — they indicate which operations are hand-led, not how long a production blazer takes.
Apparel takes roughly 52% of a $4.2 billion global industrial sewing machine market. The machine class that actually decides jacket-front quality is far narrower: the global fusing press category is worth $238.42 million in 2026, about 1/18th the size of the sewing machine market. Sewing heads are commodity; a calibrated continuous fusing press with logged temperature, pressure, and dwell settings is not.

The $238.42M "fusing press" figure and the $932.3M "fusing machine" figure are different scopes, not a conflict: Future Market Insights counts automotive upholstery and home-textile bonding, with garment manufacturing at 35.00% of its total. Even isolating the continuous-press sub-segment leaves a residual gap against the narrower category — both are reported as scoped, neither is reconciled.
Suiting sits roughly 100-200 GSM below coat cloth, and that gap is the entire reason a blazer needs internal structure. A 280 GSM year-round worsted has almost no body of its own — the silhouette comes from canvas, interlining, and pressing, not from the shell.
The Super S number is a fineness cap rather than a quality grade: Super 150s guarantees a maximum average fibre diameter of 16.25 microns and nothing about abrasion resistance, and finer yarn is harder to sew cleanly and more prone to seam slippage. The oz/GSM seasonal bands are practitioner consensus across independent tailoring sources rather than a published textile standard — treat them as working bands, not exact thresholds. The upper winter bound overlaps with some sources' winter floor. The IWTO micron figures, by contrast, are a governed labelling standard.
Two thresholds determine whether a fused blazer front bubbles: differential shrinkage above 2% between face fabric and interlining, and peel bond strength below 400 grams per 2.54 cm after the first wash. Three firms size the garment interlining category within a narrow band around $3.65-3.75 billion for 2025-2026 but diverge sharply on the 2035 endpoint ($5.66B vs. $6.33B). The two Market Growth Reports figures are two data points from a single report, not independent corroboration of the others.
A tailored blazer runs $600-$1,200 for the first sample and typically needs 3-5 rounds before production approval — the top of every published garment sampling table, and a lined jacket's pattern-making fee alone ($180) is nearly double a simple woven top's ($95). Budget the rounds, not the sample: a blazer that takes five rounds costs more in development than one that takes three, regardless of the per-sample rate.

The "2.5% of total order quantity" framing is a widely used simplification. QIMA's own definition is stricter — the maximum acceptable number of defective items within a sample batch, governed by ISO 2859-1 code-letter tables, not a flat percentage of the full order. Use the sampling table, not the percentage, when writing an inspection clause.
